Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 has hit the market with a complete facelift. In fact the users of 2011 edition will have completely new experience with the 2012 version of the product. However, when it comes to security capabilities of the software, it has indeed performed much lower than expected or at least has scored below when compared with its competitors.
The new smart look of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 begins with its interface the old style of navigation using tabs at the left side of the interface has been shunned and a gorgeous new look with large sized buttons at the bottom makes it look very professional and stylish. The pricing of the product is also reasonable and affordable.
It is not unusual to compare a product with the best in its class in order to have a glance at the relative performance of the product. According to our view we classified Bitdefender as the top ranking antivirus when it comes to 2012 versions released by various publishers. When compared with it, the autopilot feature of the Bitdefender seems to be more proactive. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 on the other hand pops out a lot of queries allowing users to decide how to handle certain threats.
When it comes to the plus points of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012, the new layout sports cloud services based on the Kaspersky Security Network. A click the Cloud Protection button pops up a new window which displays the number of good files, dangerous files, and files that are still being processed. It is similar to the Norton Insight Network window in its 2011 edition. However Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012’s capability is much higher in this respect.
Yet another new feature termed as File Advisor provides users with a direct view Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 knowledge about a file. It can be activated by a right-click on the file. Apart from showing the file’s reputation, it also reveals the number of Kaspersky-equipped computers where the file exists. The expanded view provides a better insight on the details of the file and its worldwide occurrence.
Installation of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 is very smooth even in infected systems with its highly proactive installer which has in it “Protect the installation process”. As soon as the installer detects a malware, it warns about it and provides a special disinfection process when the system reboots. It also automatically runs a complete scan.
However, the effectiveness in removing rootkits has failed Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 in our tests. While the software claims to have removed the rootkit we were able to find it again during the rebooting. And in spite of the support offered by the publisher, the problem persisted. This slogging of customer care from the publisher has also been felt with the previous edition of the antivirus.
When it comes to detection and cleaning up of malware, the performance of the antivirus was much lower when compared with its closest competitors. However, the removal process of the detected malware was quiet efficient.
